About Valley Veterinary Emergency

Emergency Pet Care for the San Fernando Valley

Valley Veterinary Emergency is a stand-alone emergency veterinary hospital designed specifically to treat urgent and critical medical situations. While we share the same commitment to compassionate, high-quality care as McGrath Veterinary, this hospital focuses exclusively on emergency and urgent cases — so pets can receive rapid attention when their regular veterinarian is closed or when immediate care is needed.

Founded by Dr. Brian McGrath, the same veterinarian behind McGrath Veterinary, Valley Veterinary Emergency was built to fill a real, growing need in the San Fernando Valley: a trusted local hospital for the moments when waiting isn’t an option. Our team is trained specifically in emergency medicine, and our hospital is equipped to handle the trauma, toxicities, surgical emergencies, and critical care cases that simply can’t wait until morning.

Working With Your Family Veterinarian

Valley Veterinary Emergency works closely with local veterinary hospitals — including but not limited to McGrath Veterinary — to ensure pets receive coordinated care. After your pet’s emergency visit, we’ll share medical records with your primary veterinarian so they can continue follow-up care once your pet is stable.

We believe emergency medicine works best when it’s a partnership, not a handoff. Whether you’re a long-time McGrath client or you’ve never heard our name before today, your regular veterinarian stays at the center of your pet’s healthcare journey. We’re just here for the moments in between.

Pet Emergency Services We Provide

Our team is equipped to handle many of the most common and serious veterinary emergencies, including:

  • Emergency examinations: Rapid assessment and stabilization of pets experiencing sudden illness or injury
  • Diagnostic testing: In-house laboratory testing and imaging to help identify medical problems quickly
  • Emergency surgery: Life-saving procedures when immediate surgical care is needed
  • Hospitalization and monitoring: Supportive care and close monitoring for pets requiring ongoing treatment

Built for the Worst Days. Run by the Best People

Emergency medicine is intense, fast-paced, and emotionally heavy — and it takes a particular kind of team to do it well. Our doctors, technicians, and support staff chose this work because they love animals and they want to be there for families in their hardest moments. When your pet walks through our doors, they’re in the hands of people who treat every case like it’s their own pet on the table.
